Bunker silo guide: frequently asked questions
Answers on bunker silo covers, building with concrete elements, costs and regulations in Switzerland.
What does a bunker silo with a cover system cost?
That depends on the size, the number of chambers, the ground conditions and the extras you want. We will gladly prepare a quote for you – from the supply of elements only to a turnkey bunker silo at a fixed price.
How many people does it take to cover the bunker silo?
With the AgroCover cover system, just one: the silo is opened and closed by remote control. Film, nets and sandbags are no longer needed, and the system regulates the fill level of the water tubes automatically.
Does AgroCover also work in winter?
Yes. Thanks to a patented process with heat recovery, the rainwater in the tube chambers stays liquid even at low sub-zero temperatures.
How long does the cover sheet last?
The AgroCover cover sheet has a life expectancy of 10 to 15 years. Single-use film and nets that have to be replaced every year are a thing of the past.
What is the difference between AgroCover and Silage Safe?
AgroCover covers the silo mechanically and by remote control – ideal for daily feed removal. Silage Safe is the low-cost alternative without a machine: plastic sheets, perforated PVC pipes, steel pipes and tension straps seal the feed airtight, and no sandbags are needed here either.
Does building a bunker silo with concrete elements comply with water protection rules?
Corner, floor and wall comply with Swiss regulations and are recognised as a construction solution. Sealing strips on the end faces of the element bases ensure 100 % watertightness.
Why concrete elements instead of in-situ concrete?
Precast elements are high-quality, cost-effective and labour-saving: they are set on a laser-levelled gravel bed – more than 100 metres of finished silo wall per day are possible. Widening later is no problem, because there is no steel connection to the floor.
How strong are the bunker silo elements?
The retaining walls made of high-grade C60/75 concrete offer an axle load guarantee of up to 22 tonnes. Even the heaviest vehicles and one-sided filling are no problem.
Can I retrofit an existing bunker silo?
The cover system can be adapted to different silo widths. We will gladly check on site whether your existing facility is suitable.
Where does AgroCover Swiss operate?
We advise, supply and build throughout Switzerland and the Principality of Liechtenstein. We sell Silage Safe exclusively for these two countries.
